This past Wednesday, January 27, our parish staff, Mandy and Alli took a trip to the Nanaimo Recycling Centre on a mission to recycle as much as we could. The Parksville Recycling Centre no longer recycles items such as plastic bags, Styrofoam, etc., so we have been saving our recycling in a system that Mandy created for months. Our parish partner O-HEARTS is still cooking meals from our kitchen daily, so we have been able to recycle their waste in addition to our recycling from the church and from the Covid-19 Response shelter. The Nanaimo recycling Centre is able to take plastic bags, Styrofoam, glass, metal, electronics, and batteries which has allowed us to keep a significant amount of recycling out of our dumpster. Through recycling with purpose, we have been able to reduce the number of times our dumpster needs to be emptied to once every four months. Mandy has been the leader of our mission to reduce, reuse, and recycle in all practices here at the church. It is very inspiring in the current climate to know that there are organizations such as the Nanaimo Recycling Centre and people like Mandy who are working hard to make a difference. Every piece of plastic counts! We encourage you to be mindful with your carbon footprint and consider taking a trip to the Nanaimo Recycling Centre. Let’s make a difference together!
